I am disowning the New England Patriots

Hey, Sports is entertainment. Allegedly.

I am disowning the New England Patriots

Postby Kate Baker on Tue Sep 11, 2007 7:04 pm

I have to admit, I winced this morning when the news came out about possible cheating in the NE Patriots camp. Yet I shrugged it off and went about my day, thinking that perhaps it was all a big misunderstanding.

Turns out, I was wrong. The NFL Commissioner has officially announced that the Patriots were indeed cheating against the NY Jets this past Sunday. An assistant camera man was taping the defensive signals of the opposing team and apparently it's not the first time his camera has been confiscated for this suspected offense.

There is also question about multiple radio signals and channels the team was using during the game and when confronted, the team could not explain them away. One would think the multiple channels were to relay the illegal information to the proper people.

I am disheartened. The Patriots have always been my team, but they deserve to be drawn and quartered for this. Along with taking away draft picks, the Commissioner should reverse Sunday's win to a loss. Starting the season behind, under scrutiny and with the knowledge that they'll miss draft picks for next year, should make them think twice about being stupid.

I swear, I'm just going to stop watching all professional sports, with the steroid controversy in baseball, the referee scandal in basketball and now this, golf is looking like the only sport at which you can't cheat and possibly get away with it and we all know how stimulating watching that sport can be.

Ugh. I'm off to rip down my Patriots banner :(

I just got this in an email from a Panthers Fan.

It's actually quite funny.

I should disown things alot more often. Friggen Patriots are undefeated.

I'm formally announcing that I am disowning the Boston Red Sox.

It appears that the Patriots are running up the score on their opponents according to some sports channels. Sunday, with a three or four touchdown lead on the Redskins, they went for a fourth down when in field goal range, then drove down for another TD. It's supposed to be a revenge thing on the league for outing their little cheating scandal. And keeping Brady in the game long after it has been decided. That could backfire with some lineman giving him an extra hard hit and causing an injury. I hope not. But who knows?

It definitely seems that way. Again this past Sunday.

Someone pointed out to me this:

2 games against Buffalo
2 games against Jets
2 games against Miami

6 of 10 games are against teams with what 5 wins between them at week 10...

They beat Indy, but Indy had to have a few key members missing and it was close, while NE was running on fully cylinders.
The playoffs will be interesting to watch when they come up against Indy again. . .

Time to resurrect this thread.

I'm hoping Kate's disowning of the Patriots has the same effect on the Patriots as what happened to the Red Sox after she disowned them! Namely, going all the way and winning the Championship! World Series for the Red Sox, Super Bowl for the Patriots.

What say, Kate? Are you an Owner, or a DisOwner?

Here's to 19-0!

Snave,

No crap eh? Considering I disowned the Patriots at the beginning of the season, the status still stands.

Patriots=disowned.

Although, that's really kinda crappy considering I can't be involved in a sports organization and have it be successful!

Cake and grief counseling will be provided at the end of the football season.

Feel better now?

Maybe a T-shirt would cheer you up:

OK, you guys finally did it. I just got the Orange Box. It's installed, but I haven't started it yet. Now I'll finally find out about that lying cake!

Christian, no grief counselling necessary. The Patriots go all the way. Mark my words.

whoo, go Pats go!

Personally, i think the League should just have left the Pats to keep on cheating. Then at least they gave other teams a chance and actually lost some games.

Brady for president! Go, Patriots - the perfect season!

Anybody see the interview with Bill Belichick, after the Pats/Chargers game yesterday?

"We know that Miss Baker used to be a fan of ours, but now that we have progressed so well this season, I asked the guys in the locker room how they feel about Kate's earlier decision. Well, they just feel terrible - and don't feel right about going to the Super Bowl without G33KY G1RL's full support. Tom Brady told the rest of the team 'Please come come back Kate, we miss you!'. "

That's awfully kind, but I'll keep my disownament active for one more game. (Yes, I just made up that word.)

It's sort of a catch-22 at this point though. If I cheer them on in full force and they lose, I'll be blamed. If I don't take them back like spurned lover and they lose, I'll be blamed. I'd rather just eat chicken wings and pizza and have a good beer in the corner of my Superbowl party while smiling smugly to myself. Who can say if I'm enjoying the food, or the game? :)

Go Pats! Err...I mean, yummy wings!

It's all my fault.

I'm so sorry...

(In other news, congratulations to the Giants. They certainly outplayed the Pats and I'm convinced that Brady was on *something*. )
