How did you pull off that excellent watermark in your response comments? That was...man. Surprising. In a good way. <spooky voice> "The Proprietor is watching oooover youuuu"</spooky voice> kinda vibe. Happy Halloween.

I can't say for certain how John managed the cool watermark trick, but I suspect he's using a WordPress plug-in that applies some CSS customization (in this case, a background image and a special border) to all of his comments.

If you're a WordPress user, there are a couple of plug-ins all custom CSS for author comments, though I couldn't say which one John is using. A quick glance at the description of Highlight Author Comments by Rob Marsh leads me to believe it could be used to achieve a similar result.

Ah, very good, KJToo. Intriguing bit of CSS. I wonder how much 'depth' you could pull...like looking out your window, the comments being panes.

Though it might be a bit of a chore (especially designing for multiple browsers), you might be able to add a frame with some shadow to give it a sense of depth. It'd mean using some interesting graphical elements and possibly employing a CSS technique that is often (coincidentally) referred to as a "sliding window". Lots of work for something that might ultimately detract from the content of the window itself.
