NaNoWriMo 2008

The fiddly bits of writing and publishing.

NaNoWriMo 2008

Anyone participating this year?

I finally signed up. I'm hoping it will help me break through my endless... well, I guess dithering is good word. It's like I'm crafting each sentence from precious, precious gold and getting nowhere with the story.

Ooh, me! I am!
This is my first year!!!
I'm excited... but have yet to pick a topic. So I'll probably end up making everything up as I go along. My "novel" is probably going to resemble an epic poem =)

Love to, but I'm already committed to another major writing project for school, one which is nowhere as fun.

That is why there's always next year... best of luck to all the writers!

How did you guys do?
I failed. But it has me excited about writing a movie script in February (I think it's February) and NaNoWriMo next year. I'm normally a terrible planner, but my pitiful all-over-the-place 4,000ish words this year have me wishing I had planned better!

I got quite a few words put down, but ultimately fell short after losing a week to a work emergency. It's totally cool to say "I'm in a global group in my company" until it's time to have emergency incident response meetings. Then it's 5-7 days of meetings with regional teams all over the world at ungodly hours (2:00AM was popular for some reason*) and soothing the skittish and easily spooked herd of executives.

However, I've got all the main scenes in my story fleshed out. Now it's a matter of revision and connecting the dots from plot point to plot point. Even had a couple sub-plots emerge that had never occurred to me by just slamming words down in the old text editor.

Hopefully I'll do better next year. I'll be sure to schedule unpredictable emergencies to not happen in Nov :)

* - actually I know why. It's either the beginning or the end of the work day for most of our regional groups.
