I recall reading something by Stephen King in which he talked at length about wishing he had written "Lord of the Flies". That the basic premise of the novel was that appealling to him.

What book or story do you wish you had written?

Personally I'd have to say it's "Nightfall" by Isaac Asimov. I first discovered this story in my teens and I was blown away by the grand idea of it. An entire world that goes to hell in a handbasket once every 2,000 years just because the suns set.
